Kinsley Reid Named Recipient of the John J. DeShazo Jr. '49 Memorial Endowed Scholarship

October 2026

DeShazo Group is proud to congratulate Kinsley Reid '27, a civil engineering senior at Texas A&M University, as this year's recipient of the John J. DeShazo Jr. '49 Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Her profile is part of Texas A&M's 150 Years of Student Impact celebration.

A First-Generation Aggie

Kinsley is from Cypress, Texas, and is the first in her family to attend Texas A&M. During her time there, she has peer-taught, conducted undergraduate research, studied abroad, and completed two summer internships in traffic engineering, most recently with a focus on intelligent transportation systems (ITS).

"I love the innovative aspect of this ever-evolving industry. It is also a challenging field, and I know that I will be pushed with new technology and new projects as I continue this work full time." Kinsley Reid '27

Research With Real-World Impact

Kinsley's research uses artificial intelligence to help route ships around cyclones, and she has a paper under review with the Transportation Research Board. After graduation, she plans to pursue a master's degree before entering the industry.

Carrying On a Legacy

The scholarship honors John J. DeShazo Jr., a Texas A&M civil engineering graduate who founded our firm in 1980. Over a career of nearly 55 years, he was known for mentoring young transportation professionals, and many of them went on to lead city and county transportation departments. This scholarship continues that commitment to developing the next generation of engineers.

Congratulations, Kinsley, from all of us at DeShazo Group!
